CALEB SCHAFTLEIN,
Could you please provide us with a professional introduction about yourself and your photography work?
My name is Sabina Shchukina and I'm a professional photographer. I travel the world and take creative shots in different countries. To date, I've shot in more than 20 countries
Can you tell us about how you got started in photography?
I’ve enjoyed taking pictures since I was a kid. At first I just liked dressing up nicely and taking pictures of myself, my friends, and my parents, but then I wanted to explore photography more and more. When I got older, I started dancing professionally and since I'm always full of ideas, I thought about how else I could express myself, so I decided to combine dancing with photography. I started to create mini-projects in which I did everything - I created a concept of the whole idea and show, a new dance routine, I found costumes and locations, trained dancers and after that shot not only a dance video, but also took beautiful photos of the whole idea. At that point I was finding photographers to shoot because I was involved in a dance performance myself, but the whole concept was mine, as was the post-processing and retouching of the shots. I was like a filmmaker who had an idea, wrote a script, found actors and a location and asked an operator to bring this idea to life. Over time my relationship with photography became more and more serious.
What was your passion driving you during your journey? Who or what prompted you to begin?
I've always been driven by the ideas I've generated. I've always wanted to realize and show them to people. And plus I don't like to be bored, and new ideas and their realization always gives incredible energy
As a photography expert, what sets your work a part from other photographers?
I think what sets me apart from other photographers is my individual style. I've heard more than once people's opinions that my photos stand out. They say that if they see several different photos, they will realize where mine are. So I would say: style, original ideas and colorfulness of the shots. I guess my other creative background also plays a role: I'm a dancer, choreographer and model, so that also brings something fresh to my vision of the shots. Plus I've been learning photography since I was a kid, but on my own. Since I didn't know the right way to do it, it didn't limit my imagination in the beginning.
Where do you get your ideas for photoshoots?
Do you remember the Inception movie? My ideas are emerging and unfolding step by step. I can be inspired by a conversation, insight, music, book, painting, movie, location, thought, emotion, etc. Something even a minor thing can inspire me to create an entire project.
Can you tell us about the most memorable moment you've had as a photographer and what experience you gained from that?
I've shot in the desert under the blazing sun, in the ocean when I was hit by a wave and all you can do at that point is hold the camera up, and in snowfall and rain. Shooting in such conditions has really strengthened me as a professional
what are your tips for aspiring photographers on skill development?
My advice to photographers who are at the beginning of their journey is don't be afraid to experiment and go outside the box. Your perspective and vision is unique! I think if everyone brings their own voice to their works, it will be peerless! And, of course, I advise you to practice and shoot a lot - you can't get experience any other way
Can you tell me about upcoming project you’re working on and the idea behind it?
I'll be shooting in Paris for the next two months. I want to express the Christmas and winter mood through my photos during this period. The idea: Paris, fashion, glitter, celebration.
What is your favorite piece of work you've ever shot?
These are probably three of my favorite works:
- Fashion shoot in Paris with two model and two royal poodles. I really wanted to do an elegant shooting in Paris. I came up with this idea and I’m very happy with the result.
